Recreational Program

Legacy Gymnastics’ recreational classes offer healthy, positive experiences for students of all ages and abilities. Instructors will warm-up students with exercises that increase flexibility and strengthen the cardiovascular, muscular, and mental aspects of growing bodies. Classes visit all four Olympic events Vault-Bars Beam-Floor, along with trampoline. We encourage a love of physical fitness through gymnastics.

Recreational Program

Beginner Classes

Our 55 minute Beginner Classes introduce students to all four events. Skill development is in the early stages for exercises like handstands and cartwheels, forward rolls, and body positions. Students will learn to hang and support themselves on the bar and cast their hips off, increase balance with controlled walking and standing balances on the beam, and develop mobility skills on vault.

5 year olds & up

Beginner 1 & 2

Beginner classes introduce participants to all four Olympic events (vault, uneven bars, balance beams, and floor) and access to the trampoline and foam pit.


Beginner Level 1: Beginners learn gym safety, terminology, body shapes, and build strength on floor and bars.


Beginner Level 2: Students build upon the shapes and strength gained in Beginner 1.

Prerequisite: No prior gymnastics experience, must be enrolled in Kindergarten or up

Advanced Beginner Classes

Adv. Beginner 1 & 2

Advanced Beginners is for students that have mastered the basic skills taught in Beginner. At this level, gymnasts are introduced to the high balance beams and bars.


Advanced Beginner Level 1: Skill development includes vertical handstands and cartwheels, beginning backbends, and a hip pullover from a block on bars.


Advanced Beginner Level 2: Students build upon the skills, shapes, and strength gained in Advanced Beginner 1 including handstand forward rolls, bridge kick overs on a wedge and the hip pullover from the floor on bars.

Prerequisite: Mastery of skills on in Beginner

5 year olds & up

Beginner/Adv. Beginner Combination Class

If your child is right on the bubble of advancing to the next Beginner Level this is the class for them! Beginner skills will be perfected, and advanced beginner skills will be introduced. Don’t worry, our fantastic coaches will be able to challenge each child based on their individual needs!

Recreational Program

Intermediate Classes

Intermediate gymnasts set their sights on building upon the foundation of skills learned in Advanced Beginner. Intermediate levels introduce front & back walkovers on floor and more advanced circling skills on the bars.

5 year olds & up

Intermediate 1

Recommended 2 days per week

Skill development includes back and front walkovers on floor, back hip circles on bars, and handstand flat backs on vault.

Prerequisite: Mastery of skills in Advanced Beginner

5 year olds & up

Intermediate 2

Recommended 2 days per week

Gymnasts are introduced to back handsprings on floor, begin training larger circling skills on bars, and advance their tumbling and dance skills on the balance beam.

Prerequisite: Mastery of skills in Intermediate 1

Recreational Program

Advanced Classes

Building upon the foundation skills in our Beginner program, the Intermediate levels introduce front & back walkovers on floor and more advanced circling skills on the bars.

5 year olds & up

Advanced

Required 2 days per week

This class is designed to bridge recreational gymnasts into a competitive program. Athletes at this level will have a variety of skills and will learn to connect them together with increasing agility and strength on all events. Conditioning is included to help prevent injury and learn more advanced skills.

Prerequisite: Mastery of skills in Intermediate 2

This class will resume in November 2019
